It works! Ok, no surprise there. I've made a few minor adjustments to allow the "weight" to move more freely. While there's less friction, I still think I'll have to add more weight to get it to move more freely. If I can find a linear pot that doesn't have that center "catch" I might be able to avoid adding more weight.
